Chartered College responds to record number of teacher wellbeing calls

CHARTERED COLLEGE RESPONDS TO RECORD NUMBER OF TEACHER WELLBEING CALLS

The Chartered College of Teaching has commented on a record number of calls to Education Support Partnership’s teacher wellbeing helpline.

The charity dealt with 9,615 calls between April 2018 and the end of March 2019, the largest number in its history.

Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching, said:

“These findings make for extremely worrying reading. Sadly, it is far from surprising. The weight of expectation on our fantastic teachers is greater than ever and we know they are working longer hours than many of their colleagues around the world.

Teachers play a vital role in shaping the lives of children and the future of society, it is imperative that we do more to support their wellbeing. All areas of the profession need to come together in the spirit of collegiality to address this and enable our teachers to be the best that they can be.”
