Chartered College joins new teacher wellbeing group

CHARTERED COLLEGE JOINS NEW TEACHER WELLBEING GROUP

The Chartered College of Teaching has today (15 March) joined a new Government school staff wellbeing group.

The new group was announced by Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds, at the Association of School and College Leaders’ annual conference. It will look at how teachers and school leaders can be better supported to deal with the pressures they face.

In addition to the Chartered College of Teaching, the Advisory Group will include head teachers and principals, teaching and college unions and the mental health charity Mind.

Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching, commented on the new group:

The Chartered College of Teaching is pleased to join this new advisory group to support the wellbeing of our fantastic teachers. We all know about the huge pressure teachers experience and too often they feel isolated. This needs to end.

Recruiting and retaining teachers will go a long way towards reducing this pressure. Together we need to do more to raise the status of the profession and focusing on teacher wellbeing is an important step to achieving this. We need to trust in their decisions, support them to develop and enable them to focus on why they entered this profession – to teach.
