CHARTERED TEACHER PROGRAMME TO BENEFIT FROM IRIS CONNECT PLATFORM
The Chartered College of Teaching and IRIS Connect have today announced their collaboration to provide a world-class learning and certification experience for teachers working towards Chartered Teacher status.
As the professional body for teachers and leaders, the Chartered College exists to connect, inform and inspire teachers to take pride in their profession and deliver the best possible education for children and young people. To support this, the Chartered College provides teachers with access to evidence of what works and the space to reflect on their learning to achieve excellence in teaching.
The Chartered College’s Chartered Teacher programme (CTeach) – which offers an accredited career-long professional development pathway – will now benefit from IRIS Connect’s market-leading system to support participants to capture and reflect upon authentic video of the learning in their classrooms. Over 130 participants are currently engaging in three cycles of collaborative enquiry using video as part of their broader accreditation process, in what is one of the first programmes of its type in the world.
Historically, professional development and accreditation has missed concrete links between theory and professional skills in practice. The Chartered College of Teaching is now using digital video collaboration technology to address this challenge.
Through the IRIS Connect platform teachers will collaborate and refine their practice with colleagues in other schools. Participants will document this process of refinement and demonstrate their use of educational research to improve outcomes in their classrooms.
The security and privacy of its members and their pupils are key principles for the Chartered College. IRIS Connect ensures that all videos have appropriate permissions and remain within the control of the teachers and their schools at all times, thereby adhering to the strict requirements of the forthcoming GDPR data protection standards.
Cat Scutt, Director of Education and Research of the Chartered College of Teaching, said:
“Our Chartered Teacher programme sits at the heart of our work to recognise the knowledge, skills and professionalism of teachers. We are pleased to be partnering with IRIS Connect to support the delivery of this pioneering programme. Through access to their tools we can further support our members to strengthen their professional learning, which in turn will benefit the children and young people they teach and, ultimately, the profession.”
Andy Newell IRIS Connect Managing Director said of the collaboration:
“From our founding in 2008 we have believed that empowered, confident and connected teachers are stronger teachers. While video collaboration has the ability to overcome many of the barriers to effective professional learning, it’s clear that this is only a part of the picture. Only a vibrant professional body enabling collaboration at scale can truly revolutionise the profession. We are delighted to be breaking new ground with the Chartered College of Teaching and look forward to supporting them on their journey”
