The Chartered College of Teaching has commented on a new report by the Education Policy Institute (EPI) looking at the cost of giving teachers a right to high-quality training.

The report finds that giving teachers an entitlement to quality training would cost the government less than 1 per cent of total spending on schools. The Chartered College of Teaching previously published a blueprint setting out how the quality assurance of CPD could work and how schools can ensure that the CPD they choose is high-quality.

Access to high-quality professional development can lead to an increase in pupil attainment, drive improvements across the system and strengthen the recruitment and retention of teachers. It benefits all of society for teachers to have the opportunity to develop their practice.  If the government truly values our teachers and is committed to unlocking the best future for our students then it must  guarantee career-long entitlement to professional learning.”
