Top five things to do before the new term starts

With the new school term quickly approaching, here are a few things you can do to prepare and ease yourself back into the classroom.

1. Make sure your details are up to date

Login to MyCollege to check your contact details and address are up to date to ensure you don’t miss out on important announcements, as well as our upcoming Autumn term issue of Impact.

Please update your email address if you no longer have access to the one you registered with, if, for example, you changed schools, or registered as a student member with a university email address and are now an ECT.

2. Read this Impact article:

Exploring the evidence base: The role of routines in creating an effective learning environment

In this article from our latest issue of Impact, Ann-Marie Argyropulo-Palmer FCCT explores why routines are important and how they support learning, as well as how developing a deeper understanding of routines can help teachers, teacher educators, and school leaders to maximise their effectiveness.

3. Watch this webinar:

Lesson Planning with Yamina Bibi

In this #ECSeries webinar, Yamina Bibi FCCT examines how to plan for and deliver an effective lesson to support student progress using evidence-informed strategies, and how to use formative and summative data to inform your planning and ensure that all learners are represented and included so that all students can achieve success.

4. Download this lesson planning toolkit

This toolkit, from our 2019/20 issue of The Profession provides new teachers with steps to consider when planning their lessons efficiently and effectively for their students. It may also prove helpful for more experienced teachers looking for a simpler approach.

5. Plan your CPD

If you’ve been considering Chartered Status, this new term is a great time to begin your journey! All assessment units are now available and you can choose the pathway most suited to your professional needs. It’s recommended you start with the Certificate in Evidence-Informed Practice which is also a very beneficial course on its own for teachers and leaders wishing to develop their understanding of evidence-informed practice and gain recognition for their expertise.

We also have more upcoming webinars and an online course with ACAMH, to help you support pupils with their mental health and wellbeing.
