By: Chartered College of Teaching

On Wednesday 12th November, we were joined online by members and guests for our eighth Annual General Meeting to recognise our achievements over the past year and to announce the Council election results.

CEO Dame Alison Peacock reflected on strengthened partnerships across the UK, the appointment of HRH Princess Beatrice as Patron, upcoming initiatives focused on diversity in teacher recruitment, AI innovation and flexible working. Plans were also shared to expand accreditation and group membership opportunities, all aimed at elevating the teaching profession.

It was announced that Bushra Nasir CBE was awarded an honorary Fellowship, recognising her pioneering leadership and contribution to education. Dame Alison also highlighted the success of a Mission 44 funded project to increase diversity in teacher training, with applications open for global majority leaders to join a funded Chartered Teacher (Leadership) cohort.

The College continues to strengthen its influence, having submitted evidence to the review, met with Sir Kevan Collins and established regular meetings with Ofsted Chief Inspector Sir Martyn Oliver.

Keynote

The inspirational Mark Priestley, Professor of Education at the University of Stirling then spoke to us about teacher agency, what is and is not agency, and the different conceptualisations of teacher agency. He described the encouragement from emerging viewpoints of teacher agency that raises such questions as how best to create the conditions for strong teacher agency.
