Rethinking Curriculum is a long-term curriculum development project focused on building knowledge and skills within the English primary sector.
The project aims to support and equip teachers and school leaders with the knowledge and skills to identify, plan and implement curriculum development work in a sustainable, context-specific and impactful approach. This will mean that all pupils will have access to an expansive, inspiring curriculum that connects them with local communities and enables them to lead healthy, fulfilled lives.
What is Rethinking Curriculum?

Rethinking Curriculum - Fostering Creativity
As part of the development of a creativity toolkit, we are delighted to have been selected as the official England partner for an international project on ’Supporting Teachers to Foster Creativity’ led by the OECD. We will be delivering a year-long course with resources developed by the Educational Research and Development Team at the OECD, which will be adapted to the local context in England to suit teachers’ needs. This is an exciting project that will give teachers and leaders access to cutting-edge resources to foster children’s creativity in their settings and provide opportunities to collaborate with colleagues from across the world.

The Team
The Chartered College is collaborating with The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Pedagogy to design a project that is based on the needs of the current teachers and leaders of our schools.
Find out about the project team from both the Chartered College of Teaching and the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Pedagogy on our project team page.

How the Pilot worked
In the academic year 2023-24, we carried out an in-school co-design pilot with six primary schools across the country. We collaborated with expert designers to create curriculum development tools including seven curriculum enrichment toolkits, based on areas identified by our research. We hosted webinars and podcasts, building the Rethinking Curriculum community for the wider education sector.
