HISP Teaching School Hub is committed to ensuring that colleagues at every level of the organisation have access to high-quality professional learning and are equipped to engage critically with evidence to inform practice. Engagement with the Chartered College of Teaching’s sector organisation package has been instrumental in supporting this aim, delivering tangible benefits for colleagues, schools, and early career teachers across our regions.
Through professional affiliate membership, colleagues, including the Head of Teaching School Hub, Appropriate Body Services Lead, Programmes Lead, and those involved in the delivery of initial teacher training, have been able to draw on the Chartered College’s extensive resources and networks. This has supported individual professional growth, enhanced leadership capacity, and enabled us to model the importance of evidence-informed practice across our provision.
Designation as an institutional member has further strengthened this impact. A particular highlight has been the Certificate in Evidence-Informed Practice course, currently being undertaken by the Head of Teaching School Hub, Appropriate Body Services Lead, and Programmes Lead. Participation in this programme is directly influencing the design and delivery of our work, embedding evidence-informed approaches at a strategic level and enhancing the quality of support we provide to our partner schools.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to think about the importance of – not just consuming research, but to debate and question it in light of different contexts.”
“As a Programmes Lead, this course has been invaluable in strengthening the way I support our ECTs and mentors. Research is embedded within the training we deliver, and the learning I have engaged with, through the Certificate in Evidence-Informed Practice, has encouraged me to consider how to communicate the relevance of this effectively. It has helped me guide colleagues in thinking critically about what is appropriate for their specific context, and in judging to what extent research evidence might be adapted or applied in their individual practice.”

In July 2024, we were also pleased to collaborate with the Chartered College of Teaching on a webinar delivered by Catt Scutt, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Education and Research), as part of our virtual Early Career Teacher celebration event. The session, focused on engaging with research and teacher development, offered early career colleagues valuable insight into the practical application of research evidence and highlighted the importance of sustained professional learning from the outset of their careers.
Additionally, access to a specially curated collection of Impact journal articles has been of significant benefit. Sharing this collection across all schools within our two Teaching School Hub regions has provided colleagues, and particularly Early Career Teachers, with accessible, high-quality research evidence to inform classroom practice and professional reflection.
Our partnership with the Chartered College of Teaching through the sector organisation package has therefore enhanced the professional development of key colleagues, enriched our regional offer, and strengthened our collective focus on fostering a culture of research engagement and evidence-informed practice.
