Conducting EdTech Research

A practical guide for researchers working in collaboration with EdTech companies to gather evidence about product effectiveness.

This guide offers researchers working with EdTech companies a starting point for establishing shared understanding and guiding collaborative and meaningful evidence generation. It explores three key phases:

  1. Using a logic model or theory of change as a structural asset
  2. Conducting a literature review to provide an evidence-based foundation
  3. Agreeing priorities and planning for research on product effectiveness

Question prompts and links to resources are provided, aiming to facilitate collaborative discussions between a researcher and EdTech representative across each of the three phases.

This guidance and the resources have been developed:

EdTech Evidence Board Evaluation Criteria

The EdTech Evidence Board Evaluation Criteria are an evidence-based criteria to evaluate the efficacy of EdTech products for teaching and learning. It is these criteria that are currently being tested as part of the pilot; and which will ultimately define the standard that will be required for EdTech products to be recognised by the EdTech Evidence Board in a future evaluation model.
