Dr Cat Scutt MBE to lead The PTI

Dr Cat Scutt, currently Deputy CEO of the Chartered College of Teaching, has been appointed as CEO at The PTI. Cat has worked at the Chartered College of Teaching since it opened to members in 2017, and has overseen the development of its award-winning, peer-reviewed journal, Impact, as well as its Chartered Teacher pathways and the delivery of a range of nationally-important projects. She received an MBE for services to education in 2021 based on her work at the Chartered College in support of national policy.

Cat will replace Hugh Rayment-Pickard at The PTI on his retirement, and will work closely with Carolyn Roberts, Chief Education Officer at the PTI. The PTI is run by the profession for the profession, focused on enhancing the subject knowledge and expertise of teachers, in order to engage pupils across the whole curriculum. It was instrumental in the founding of the Chartered College of Teaching, developing the blueprint which has underpinned our work over the last decade, and the two organisations continue to work closely together.

Cat will join the PTI in Spring 2026.

Alison Peacock, CEO of the Chartered College of Teaching, said:

“I offer my wholehearted congratulations to Cat. She will be joining The PTI at a vital moment. Strong subject specialisms will be crucial to ensuring teachers are partners in developing and implementing the new curriculum, and I know that with Cat’s leadership the profession will meet this challenge.

We will miss her expertise at the College, but I am delighted that we will continue to have opportunities to work together, supporting teachers to learn and to flourish.”

 Dr Cat Scutt said:

“It has been an absolute privilege and honour to work at the Chartered College of Teaching for the past 8 years, seeing it go from strength to strength, and I am lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from and with incredible colleagues across the sector. I am delighted to now have the opportunity to lead The PTI in its next phase; the need for inspirational subject teaching for all children and young people has never been greater, and The PTI’s reputation for providing high-quality teacher CPD to support this is unparalleled.
