Shape the Future of Teaching – Stand for Council

Rebuilding teaching – A profession that inspires and endures A blog about the Teaching Commission’s July 2025 report

We’re looking for dedicated, forward-thinking professionals to join the Chartered College of Teaching’s Council. This is your opportunity to help steer the future of our profession, ensuring the voice of teachers is not only heard but amplified.

With more than 40,000 members across the UK, the College is built on the shared expertise of its community. As a Council member, you’ll help shape the strategic direction of the organisation, making sure every member benefits from a strong, inclusive and impactful professional body.

You’ll gain the chance to share your insight and experiences, learn from peers across different settings, and grow your professional network. Whether you’re supporting early career teachers or shaping school-wide strategy, your voice matters.

Who can stand?

For the 2025 Council elections:

  1. Members and Fellows can stand for one of six Council member positions
  2. Fellows can also stand for one of two Vice President positions

The results will be announced during our online Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 12th November at 16:00 GMT.

We’re actively encouraging Members and Fellows from all backgrounds, regions and phases to stand. We believe great leadership comes from all parts of the profession. The more diverse our Council is in background, experience and perspective, the stronger we become as a professional body.

Our commitment to inclusion

The Chartered College is committed to developing a culture which values diversity in experience and thought. We know that organisations can’t grow or prosper if everyone within them thinks the same, acts the same, has the same experience and same interests. By being open to new ideas and new ways of thinking we are stronger, united and more successful, and more representative of the education sector. We welcome nominations for the election from all Members and Fellows, and in particular from Members and Fellows from underrepresented groups.

As part of our commitment, we produce an annual EDI action plan which takes stock of our progress so far and details our priorities in each year. We have a diversity and accessibility working group which helps progress this plan and coordinate activity across the organisation. The Council’s Diversity and Inclusion Group reviews the work of the Council and the employee team in relation to diversity and inclusion.
