Rethinking Curriculum is a long-term curriculum development project focused on building knowledge and skills within the English primary sector.
The project aims to support and equip teachers and school leaders with the knowledge and skills to identify, plan and implement curriculum development work in a sustainable, context-specific and impactful approach. This will mean that all pupils will have access to an expansive, inspiring curriculum that connects them with local communities and enables them to lead healthy, fulfilled lives.
What is Rethinking Curriculum?

Supporting schools to foster creativity – free year-long course with the OECD
As part of the development of a creativity toolkit, we are delighted to have been selected as the official England partner for an international project on Supporting Teachers to Foster Creativity, led by the OECD.
We will be delivering a free, year-long course using resources developed by the OECD’s Educational Research and Development Team. These resources will be adapted to the local context in England to meet teachers’ needs and support a wide range of settings.
This is an exciting project that will give teachers and leaders access to cutting-edge international resources to foster children’s creativity, along with the chance to collaborate with colleagues from across the world.
A flexible offer for school groups and MATs
As part of the programme, school groups and MATs have the opportunity to deliver the course locally, using all materials and facilitator training provided by the Chartered College of Teaching. This flexible model allows you to tailor the programme to suit your schools, while still benefitting from the depth and rigour of the international course content.
We provide:
Full facilitator training
Comprehensive course and delivery materials
Ongoing support throughout the year
This approach helps you embed professional learning around creativity in a way that works best for your staff and context.

The Team
The Chartered College is collaborating with The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Pedagogy to design a project that is based on the needs of the current teachers and leaders of our schools.

How the Pilot worked
In the academic year 2023-24, we carried out an in-school co-design pilot with six primary schools across the country. We collaborated with expert designers to create curriculum development tools including seven curriculum enrichment toolkits, based on areas identified by our research. We hosted webinars and podcasts, building the Rethinking Curriculum community for the wider education sector.
