Trust in Leadership: How trusted are you as a leader?

The key ingredient to a positive culture in a school or, for that matter, any organisation in the education or corporate sector, is trust. Schools with high levels of trust are three times more likely to see student outcomes improve than those with low levels of trust. A lack of trust, either throughout an organisation or towards a supervisor/leader, is the main barrier to improvement. When a person perceives risk (a risk of failure, a risk of ridicule, and even a risk of job security), they’re less likely to seek feedback, opportunities for growth and the formation of professional collaborative partnerships. Staff need to know they are valued and supported, and that if they fail it will be treated as a learning opportunity and not an opportunity for retribution. To create the platform for growth, innovation and improved outcomes, leaders need to foster and maintain a culture of trust: they need to be ‘compelling’ people. No one will follow a leader they don’t trust.
The Chartered College of Teaching is delighted to announce that Dr Paul Browning PhD MEdAdmin (Hons) BEd DipTeach will be coming to the UK to deliver a workshop on compelling leadership and explore his 10 key leadership practices that engender and grow trust in senior leadership.
Through a facilitated combination of group discussions and personal reflection, Dr Paul Browning will provide the opportunity for you to pause and reflect on your own leadership practices, identifying strengths and areas that you may need to develop.
Dr Browning has been a Headmaster for 20 years. His first appointment was as the founding principal at Burgmann Anglican School where he also served as the Chair of the Association of Independent Schools ACT and on the Board of the Independent Schools Council of Australia. During his time at Burgmann, the school’s student population grew from 24 to 1500, across two campuses. In 2008 Dr Browning was appointed as Headmaster of St Paul’s School. Upon his arrival, Paul led St Paul’s School through a major restructure to create a unique middle management model designed to coach and develop teachers in key 21st century pedagogies.
Paul is passionate about creativity and innovation in learning; a passion that led to the opening of the School’s Centre for Research, Innovation and Future Development. Since 2013, leaders from more than 150 schools in Australia and New Zealand have visited St Paul’s to learn from the work it is doing. Paul’s other passion is leadership and school culture. He believes that trust is the fundamental resource for successful leadership and a healthy school culture. His PhD research into the practices that engender trust was nominated for an outstanding thesis award and he is the author of Compelling Leadership: The importance of trust and how to get it.
This leadership workshop is being organised in association with THE Partnership – Tower Hamlets Education Partnership – and will last three hours. Bookings are open to all Senior Leadership Team colleagues. Light refreshments and resource materials are included in the delegate fee.

What’s the refund policy?
Cancellations received 30 days or more in advance of the event can be 100% refunded; for cancellations received less than 14 days before the event will receive 50% of booking fee. Any cancellations received in the week running up to the event will not receive a refund.
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
If you can no longer able to attend, tickets are transferable.
