Schools and teachers overcoming social disadvantage

Overcoming social disadvantage, closing the gap in attainment and in wider educational outcomes, is a key challenge for all schools and teachers.
This professional development conference presents the challenge schools and teachers face with a provocative morning keynote from Dr Ian Thompson, Oxford University, on Tackling Social Disadvantage.
The afternoon keynote will focus on what teachers can do to enhance the oracy skills of their students through dialogic teaching and how this supports students who have experienced sustained social disadvantage with Professor Neil Mercer, Cambridge University, discussing Why Oracy Matters.
The event is aimed at headteachers, professional development leads, and all teachers who are determined to close the attainment gap and are considering or already employing research-informed dialogic teachingapproaches. There will opportunities for discussion and sharing of practice by delegates in response to thekeynote lectures.
Registration is essential but there is no charge to delegates. We recommend early registration in order to be sure of a ticket.
