Steve Smith presents: What does it mean to “teach grammar”?
The session will look at what precisely we mean by grammar and how this affects how we may teach it. After a consideration of some important theoretical issues Steve will discuss some practical approaches and specific lesson ideas. These will include different types of oral interaction, drilling, use of pictures and sentence builder grids.There will be opportunities to interact and ask questions.
Steve Smith is a former Head of MFL and the writer of the popular resources website frenchteacher.net. He is Lead Subject Tutor on the PGCE course at the University of Buckingham, blogger, writer and presenter for AQA, and author of two handbooks for language teachers, The Language Teacher Toolkit (2016) and Becoming an Outstanding Languages Teacher (2018).
