Engaging Effectively with Evidence: Designing School-Based Research Projects

This webinar forms part of the Engaging Effectively with Evidence series, supporting you to confidently navigate and apply educational research. Drawing on Doing Your Research Project: A Guide for First‑time Researchers, the session will explore how to design effective and meaningful research projects at the classroom and school level, from identifying a research question to implementing different research designs.

Alongside this, Chartered Teachers will share their experiences of undertaking research projects as part of the programme, offering reflections on the challenges and highlights of the process. Their insights will share how critical engagement with evidence can strengthen classroom practice, and empower teachers as researchers within their own settings.

Whether you are embarking on your first research project or developing your writing, this session provides the opportunity to deepen your understanding of evidence‑informed practice and critical research.

Speakers: 

Steve Waters FCCT taught English and Drama for 30 years in secondary schools, followed by 6 years as an English consultant in a local authority. While teaching, Steve completed an MA in Education with the Open University. Assessment was based on small-scale research studies within his own school. Steve’s book ‘Doing Your Research Project’, co-authored with Judith Bell and Helen Johnson and now in its 8th edition, draws on his experience of being a first-time researcher. Steve has four grown-up children and lives in Manchester.
