The development of a programme to enable teachers to achieve Chartered Teacher Status has been a central focus of the Chartered College of Teaching since we started. Chartered Teacher Status recognises the knowledge, skills and behaviours of excellent teachers, celebrates the importance of their expertise in supporting the learning of children and young people and represents the first step in the development of a career pathway focused on effective classroom practice. This prestigious status also brings teaching in line with other professions, where recognition of expertise and expectation of career-long professional learning are well-established.
We launched our pilot cohort in 2018 and 98 of these teachers were awarded Chartered Teacher Status in July 2019. Since then, we are underway with our first full cohort and are in the process of recruiting our second. We’ve been delighted with the feedback from the programme so far and are excited to see the programme grow and develop over the coming years. Deliver the Chartered Teacher Programme
We’re currently inviting applications from organisations who wish to become providers of the Chartered Teacher Programme. This is an exciting opportunity for providers to play a critical role in supporting teachers to achieve Chartered Teacher Status. We are looking for providers that can offer a high-quality experience for participants.
Selected providers will work in partnership with us to pilot this approach. The provider will ensure that all participants taking part in the programme are supported by excellent training opportunities and highly-skilled mentors and the Chartered College of Teaching will set the programme assessments and oversee the assessment processes.
We are looking to recruit approximately 10 providers to pilot this model, with the programme starting in April 2020. The deadline for applications is 25th November.
We are open to receiving applications from a range of different providers (e.g. schools, multi-academy trusts, research schools, teaching schools or commercial providers/charities).
