The Chartered College of Teaching has commented on the publication of the government’s SEND review green paper. Members of the Chartered College members are encouraged to share their insights as part of the consultation. The Chartered College will also be holding an event for members to discuss the proposals of the SEND review.
Dame Alison Peacock, CEO of the Chartered College of Teaching, commented:
“While it has been a long-time coming, a clear plan for strengthening SEND provision is welcome.
The profession has been waiting for this review, and it will take time for any actions to be implemented. While teachers are doing everything possible with the resources available to support students, we need the necessary frameworks in place.
It is right that this work will be driven by evidence. However, teacher expertise and experience will be vital in adapting approaches suitable to their context.
Our education system has to work for all children. All of the different agencies must work together to benefit young people. Expert teachers with access to sufficient resources will be key to making this a reality.“
