NEW PILOT TO SUPPORT TEACHER RETENTION

The Chartered College of Teaching has been picked by the Education Endowment Foundation to pilot a new online training programme for early career teachers and their mentors.

As part of preparations for the Early Career Framework, the Chartered College will provide high-quality exemplar videos, resources and discussions for mentor and teachers to support their development. This in turn will ease the pressure on schools to develop the materials themselves.

Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College, commented: 

“At the Chartered College of Teaching we know that retention of our teachers is one of the biggest challenges our profession faces, with early career teachers most likely to describe their workload as unmanageable. If teaching is to be seen as a world class profession our teachers need access to support from the second they enter the classroom.

Through our new online training pilot, the Chartered College can ensure that early career teachers and mentors have access to the tailored support they need. This lays down important groundwork for the Early Career Framework, providing teachers with the tools to develop their practice, benefiting pupils and supporting the retention of our excellent teachers.”

This new training follows on from the launch of the Chartered College’s free online course for schools on education technology and its work to support early career teachers around the country through the new Accelerate programme.
