Chartered College responds to calls from Education Secretary for technology to transform education


During his speech at the Bett Show in London today (Wednesday, 23 January), the Education Secretary urged teachers and school leaders ‘to make smarter use of technology, both inside and outside of the classroom, to make sure that it does not add to teachers’ responsibilities.’

Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College, commented on the speech: 

“Teachers are central to the effective use of education technology. At the Chartered College of Teaching we believe that technology must be driven by the needs of the classroom and not the other way around. We want our teachers to have the resources and expertise to use technology effectively, and able to draw on the best available research evidence.

We are pleased to be working with the Government on this important work and to foster greater collaboration. Our special issue of our journal Impact, focused on education technology, has been sent to every school in England. The insight and research in the journal along with our free online course on technology launching in March will be a huge help to all teachers. It will support colleagues in the teaching profession to deliver the best possible education and help their pupils to thrive.”
